Three panel photo showing close-ups of an empanada, mojito with a straw from Ball & Chain, and a Cuban sandwich.

It’s a pleasure to visit Miami, but it’s even more of a delight to taste the flavors specific to Miami’s vibrant international scene. On our recent three-day trip to Miami, Florida, Hun and I decided to go on a Little Havana Walking Food Tour, also known as a Cuban Food Tour or a Little Havana […]

Sometimes the BEST meal you can have on a trip is Sometimes the BEST meal you can have on a trip is the meal you make for yourself…under the supervision of a trained, licensed, professional Italian chef from @fabiolouscookingday of course! 👩🏽‍🍳

👉🏽Swipe to see the before and after of our hand-made pasta dishes!
🍴 Fetuccini Pesto Genovese topped w/ pesto, roasted pine nuts, and parmesan & pecorino cheese
🍴🍴 Ravioli stuffed with zucchini, ricotta cheese, and fresh sage.

After years of purchasing store bought pasta, throwing it in boiling water, and calling it a day, this was my first time making pasta by hand and words can’t properly describe how gooooood this meal was!

🍝 Have you tried making pasta from scratch? How did it turn out? Would you ever try? Let me know in the comment below 👇🏽

“The Duomo, the Duomo! If nothing else, I want t “The Duomo, the Duomo! If nothing else, I want to see the Duomo in Florence!!” - Me

I couldn’t wait to see the Duomo in #florenceitaly after reading about it in an art history book 📖 The dome, the colors, the angles, the detail…wow 😍 Here are just a few fun facts that make this site a must see for me:

⛪️ “Duomo” is not Italian for “dome” as some people may believe; it actually translates to “Cathedral”.

👷🏾The Florence Cathedral, or Duomo di Firenze (Cattedrale Santa Maria del Fiore), designed by Arnolfo di Cambio and built by architect Filippo Brunelleschi, is the third largest church in the world (after St. Peter's in Rome and St. Paul's in London) and was the largest church in Europe when it was completed in the 15th century.

🏗 Brunelleschi had to build a dome that was so large, the builders didn’t know how to structurally support it. The solution? He invented new techniques and even new tools ⚒️ to get the job done. It is now the largest masonry dome in the world!

🏆 The Duomo is considered one of the most significant architectural achievements of the Renaissance and is open to visitors.

So…who wants to go see the Duomo?! 🙋🏽‍♀️

It’s THE BEAN!! (aka: #cloudgate)  A trip to # It’s THE BEAN!! (aka: #cloudgate)

A trip to #chicago wouldn’t be complete without a visit to British artist Anish Kapoor's first public outdoor work.

🛠So how does one actually craft a giant bean?? This 110-ton elliptical sculpture was “forged of a seamless series of highly polished stainless steel plates, which reflect Chicago’s famous skyline and the clouds above.”

It’s more than a bean - it’s Chicago in the clouds ☁️

What’s more #iconic than visiting the famous Chi What’s more #iconic than visiting the famous Chicago Theater marquee in downtown Chicago? It was def on my top #thingstoseeinchicago

Built in 1921 🔨 this theater was the "...largest, most costly and grandest of the super deluxe movie palaces" and today is one of the oldest surviving Neo-Baroque French-revival style structures in #chicago The best part? It costs absolutely nothing to take pictures of the outside of this beauty 📸

👉🏽Tip: Grab a photo early in the morning from across the street instead of the middle of the road (seriously, people were in the middle of 2-way traffic!!🚦) There are less crowds and the colors will pop in the morning light ☀️

This has been an emotionally draining week. After This has been an emotionally draining week. After hearing the news of ANOTHER life lost I just shut down. No, I don’t want to see the video. No, I don’t want to see pictures of the incident and yet I keep seeing, reading, and hearing over and over again. And again. And again. It is NOT ok. I do NOT accept this as “the norm”. I find myself hovering between trying to temper rage and trying to avoid the pit of depression. I’m exhausted.
. 👉🏽Today is Saturday. I’ve felt every emotion and grieved another loss, but what now? What do we do now?
.
.

After much though I’ve come to this conclusion: We all have been given gifts to help advance ourselves and the world around us, so use them to bring positive change. I’ve seen many people over the last week asking, “how can I be involved? What can I do to support?” This is a multi-faceted issue that requires multiple levels of support and so I say: do whatever you can with whatever gifts you’ve been given. .
If you’re a debater, advocate for the underprivileged in court. If you can organize, organize a peaceful protest. Not great with people? Organize water, masks, medical, and supply tables. Work a 9-5? Support by challenging negative stereotypes in your own environment...especially if you are privileged. If you’re a teacher, educate your students and coworkers. Work in retail? Show kindness and respect to ALL people, not just those who look like you and also challenge destructive generalizations tied to certain ethnicities. Corporate job? If you’re a POC climb the ladder and gain influence. Already in a seat of power? Lift the underprivileged up. Great with words? Write letters to your officials and every company demanding change. Better at speaking? Set up appointments to speak to your officials face to face. Wealthy? Donate money to advocacy groups. A designer? Create signs, websites, posters, shirts, and shareable content to advance the cause. Have shoes? March in protest. Scrolling on social media? You have a role to play too. Start fact checking and help spread the message of unity and zero tolerance for racism. .
.
We all have a role to play. Now is the time to play it.
